The easiest 3 ingredient baked garlic bread that’s so much healthier than store bought! Loaded with garlic and butter to get the perfect crunch with every bite!
Can we take a second to talk about bread? I love bread. It’s actually really hard not to have bread with every meal. I love bread as an appetizer with olive oil and vinegar, baked banana or pumpkin bread, dipping bread in soups, and I especially love using bread to scoop up the extra sauce from a pasta dish! 🙂
My favorite is homemade garlic bread. I used to always buy my garlic bread from Safeway. You know, the one that comes already buttered with garlic in the foil bag that you can just throw in the oven? But I often found myself scraping off the excess garlic butter because it was always way too much and not needed.
I wanted a healthier version that would be quick and easy, so I created my own! The best thing about this garlic bread is it’s ONLY 3 ingredients! Super easy right?
Start with a loaf of french bread. In order to make sure the bread is fresh, you always want to squeeze the bread gently in the center to make sure it’s soft. No one wants hard bread that’s been sitting out the whole day right? A little tip: don’t just take the bread from the baskets in the bakery section of the grocery store. Actually go up to the bakery counter and ask them if they have any fresh loaves in the back. 99.9% of the time there is fresh bread in the back and they’ll grab one and bag it for you. Bam, fresh bread!
Slice the loaf in half vertically and butter both halves of the bread. No need to actually measure out the butter, just grab the tub and start spreading 🙂
Next up is garlic. Did I mention I hate peeling garlic? Cutting both ends off the clove and then peeling each one can be a little tedious. Not to mention you end up with the garlic peel sticking to your fingers. And the worst part, your fingernails end up smelling like garlic even after you wash them. It creates extra mess and ultimately takes up more time in the kitchen.
I’ve tried fancy gadgets like this garlic roller and I love the concept behind it, but every clove is different and it doesn’t always work. I’ve also tried using the garlic that comes in a jar already minced but it has a totally different taste to it. It sits in water and oil that’s filled with artificial flavors and preservatives which doesn’t end up giving you that fresh garlic taste.
This is where I change your life. Pre-peeled garlic cloves! I always buy this bag of Christopher Ranch Organic Peeled Garlic from Safeway. For around $2.99 you get a 6 ounce bag of garlic that’s already peeled and it’s sealed in 6 individual bags to keep the garlic fresh once opened! (This also comes in a 12 ounce bag but they don’t come in individual sealed bags and the garlic spoils faster).
To save even more time, I use my favorite mini food processor from Cuisinart to mince the garlic. It’s the perfect size and chops the garlic in 4 seconds! A garlic press will also work great for making this recipe but you might want to add an extra clove.
Spread the minced garlic on top of the butter.
Sprinkle with Italian seasoning (again, no need to measure) and just like that, it’s ready for the oven!
Bake at 410° for 12-15 minutes.
Let the bread cool for about 5 minutes, slice, and enjoy!
