This pizza sauce is everything. Parmesan cheese melted together with garlic, butter, milk, and seasoning! Super fast and you likely have all of these ingredients on hand! Much cheaper and healthier than buying pre-made pizza sauce!
A while back I was craving pizza (like I often do). So naturally I wanted to fulfill that craving and bought all the ingredients to make a pizza. After returning from the store, I sadly learned I had forgotten the pizza sauce! Insert panic mode here.
I didn’t know it at the time, but forgetting to buy the pizza sauce was one of the best things that could of happened. Obviously not wanting to go back to the store, I gathered ingredients from around the kitchen and whipped up my own pizza sauce with what I had on hand!
This recipe makes 1/2 a cup of pizza sauce which is the perfect amount for a standard sized pizza (about 1lb of pizza dough). However, if you like a lot of sauce or a thicker layer, I recommend doubling this recipe 🙂
- 1 tbsp unsalted butter
- 1 tbsp flour
- ½ cup milk*
- ¼ cup parmesan cheese*
- ⅛ tsp dried thyme
- ⅛ tsp dried italian seasoning
- ⅛ tsp dried oregano
- ⅛ tsp pepper
- ¼ tsp salt
- 4 garlic cloves minced
- In a small sauce pan over medium heat, melt the butter
- Whisk in the flour for about 30 seconds or until clumpy
- Stir in the milk, parmesan cheese, thyme, italian seasoning, oregano, pepper, salt, and garlic
- Whisk together about 3 minutes until the sauce becomes thick
*Add more parmesan cheese if you need the sauce to be thicker
